Pink Elephant Thai opens its trunk along Alberni Street corridor

Is pink still the new black? Pink Elephant Thai, which opens its doors at 1152 Alberni Street on Friday (April 29), seems to believe so. The restaurant will be open from 11:30 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, serving lunch, dinner, and cocktails.

The restaurant is the brainchild of Desmond Chen, the owner of a few other modern Thai establishments, including Yaletown's Urban Thai Bistro (1119 Hamilton Street) and Charm Modern Thai (1269 Hamilton Street), as well as Chili House Thai Bistro (1018 Beach Avenue) in Kits.

Chan's newest restaurant will seat 88 people, including eight at the bar. There will be a large communal table down the middle of the restaurant, more private booths on one side, and a spot for larger groups on the mezzanine level. Like Charm Modern Thai, it sounds like this place is going for a chill, lounge-like atmosphere, a place to stop in for cocktails and a bite to eat.

One thing that piqued my interest is Pink Elephant Thai's menu, priced between $5 and $17. There will be a mix of classic Thai dishes like pad thai and oxtail curry, as well as some Thai-inspired ones, such as the double spice sukiyaki beef and the pomfret fish mango shallot sauce.

Executive chef Parichat Poomkajorn will be running the kitchen, while front of the house staff will include general manager Panee Mesri and manager Sunisa Keawpradit. I'm not convinced about the name, but Pink Elephant Thai is probably still worth a try.

      Michelle,
In the second to last paragraph you said" One thing that does peak my interest...."
The correct spelling of the word "peak" in the context that you meant it is" piqued", unless of course you write for the Simon Fraser University newspaper, whereby you could have spelled the word the way you did and claim poetic license.
One day spell check may be able to correct you, but until then ask Charlie to proofread your reviews.
