NDP claims Christy Clark using government staff for Vancouver-Point Grey by-election campaign

      The NDP has filed a complaint against Christy Clark, alleging she has misused the resources of the premier's office to help her campaign in the Vancouver-Point Grey by-election.

      In a May 9 letter to Elections B.C., NDP provincial secretary Jan O'Brien asks acting chief electoral officer Craig James to determine if the B.C. Liberal candidate has breached the Election Act.

      O'Brien notes that Clark has made two provincial funding announcements—media events organized by government staff—in the riding during the campaign.

      She also pointed out that Clark's campaign Twitter feed appeared on the premier's website until this past weekend.

      "The BC NDP is deeply concerned by the precedent that Ms. Clark is setting in allowing the resources of the BC Legislature — a non-partisan body — and the BC Government to be used for partisan electioneering purposes," the letter states.

      The NDP is running David Eby, who is on leave from his job as the executive director of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association, in the by-election.

      Vancouver-Point Grey voters go to the polls on Wednesday (May 11).

      What else is new from this corrupt government? They think we're all stupid and will vote for them, Hah! They have another think coming as early as tomorrow and in the fall. Crusty your done like toast!

      On the eve of the byelection, this campaign has taken a decidedly weird turn. According to the Vancouver Province, Clark described Eby as “someone who is on the outside of mainstream political discourse.” For many years to come, political analysts will wonder why such an ambitious politician would hand her opponent such unwarranted praise.

      (Couldn’t resist posting that. But as far as establishment politicians go, I prefer Eby to Clark.)
