Premier Christy Clark edges NDP's David Eby for Vancouver-Point Grey by-election win

After a close shave at the ballot box, Premier Christy Clark is on her way back to the B.C. legislature.

According to the initial count, the B.C. Liberal leader narrowly beat NDP candidate David Eby in today's (May 11) Vancouver-Point Grey by-election to take the seat vacated by former premier Gordon Campbell.

The final count of the nail-biter vote won't be known until May 18 or later.

With 167 of 167 ballot boxes reporting on the Elections B.C. website, Clark had received 7,371 votes (48.92 percent).

Eby garnered 6,776 votes (44.97 percent).

As for the other by-election candidates, the Greens' Francoise Raunet netted 511 votes (3.39 percent) and Danielle Alie of B.C. First claimed 369 votes (2.45 percent).

Independents William Gibbens and Eddie Petrossian received 27 votes (0.18 percent) and 14 votes (0.09 percent), respectively.

During the campaign, Clark painted Eby, the executive director of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association, as being too radical for the riding.

Eby criticized Clark for refusing to attend all-candidates debates and for her "Hollywood approach" to campaigning.

The NDP also filed a complaint with Elections B.C. on May 9, alleging Clark misused the resources of the premier's office to help her campaign.

A vote for christy is a vote against fish lake and a vote for the bitumen pipeline and tanker traffic on bc's coast. good work people of bc. You keep saying how do they get away with doing this. That is exactly how.

I really don't understand these numbers -even at Elections BC it says 145 of 134 ballot boxes reporting. How can there be 145 reporting when there are only 134?

I cannot believe people's capacity for self punishment. They have seen what Clark as the minister did in the Education ministry, also BC Rail fiasco yet the people in that riding voted for her again. Are the people in Point Grey more afraid of Eby and the NDP they are willing to let the Liberals sell the province to Gordo's and Christy's friends?

Good job Christy. Come the next election the NDP will be crying in their beer and Adrian Dix and company (most of the posters here included) will be wondering what hit them. Worst decision ever by the NDP....to elect Dix as their leader!

win by one or a million, it's all the same

She won, get over it, and support her.
