Principal fired for bigotry

When you send your kid to school, you don't expect the teacher to be a white supremacist.

So you can imagine some New York parents' suprise when they learned that the principal of their children's school was fired for his connections to white-nationalist groups.

The Southern Poverty Law Center's Hatewatch site reported today that Frank Borzellieri was canned from his job running Our Lady of Mount Carmel School after writing books predicting a "New Dark Age" because of growing African-American and Hispanic populations.

Borzellieri has been a contributor to American Renaissance, whose founder, Jared Taylor, once wrote: "Blacks and whites are different. When blacks are left entirely to their own devices, Western civilization—any kind of civilization—disappears."

Throughout history, economic downturns have often led to the kind of racial scapegoating that Taylor and Borzellieri trade in. Today's sharp drop in the stock market and the stubbornly high unemployment rate offer fertile ground for this type of thinking.

Martin Luther King got it right in 1963 when he famously said: "I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character."

As long as people like Borzellieri are running schools and Taylor is promoting white nationalism, King's dream remains unrealized.
