B.C. Premier Christy Clark’s Liberal government is losing another high-profile MLA.

Former cabinet minister Iain Black is resigning as MLA for Port Moody-Coquitlam to start work in early October as Vancouver Board of Trade CEO.

Black announced the move in a statement today (August 24).

“I have tremendously mixed emotions about leaving elected office,” he said. “While excited about embracing the challenges ahead leading the Vancouver Board of Trade, I will really miss my colleagues and our incredible staff, and engaging with the people in the Tri-Cities even more so.”

Black has previously held cabinet positions as minister of labour; minister of small business, technology and economic development; and minister of labour and citizens’ services.

Black was first elected as MLA for Port Moody-Westwood in 2005 and reelected MLA for Port Moody-Coquitlam in 2009.

In the private sector, he has held top leadership positions at several technology companies including Open Solutions Canada and the Electric Mail Company. He has also worked for IBM.

Black is the second high-profile Liberal legislator in less than a week to reveal he is leaving provincial politics.

On August 18 Chilliwack-Hope MLA Barry Penner announced he is resigning as B.C. attorney general and will not seek reelection, citing family commitments.

A detailed analysis of the Vancouver Board of Trade - tells me that its Campbells not Clarks. Get of load who is on the Board of Directors - Lara Dauphanee - Gordon Campbell's former Chief of (all) that is Staff - resume - coffee maker. Bob Lenarduzzi - the man that took Canada's soccer team from 18th to 100th.

Oh yes - I'm all for buying into the market mechanism here.

It is a little ironic that Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts is Board of Director for the Surrey Board of Trade - who answers to the lobby outfit Canadian Chamber of Commerce (neither registered as lobbyists), while Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson is not on the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Board of Trade.

Iain Black - Campbell's fella - was also in the middle of collecting business cards from the 2010 Winter Olympics - and in the middle of the development of the unaccountable 3P's for Gordon Campbell.

I also note that Fasken Martineau (giggle here) is the lawyer in the middle of many of these 3P's.

Clark, or should I say Campbell 2.0, is just another corporate hack, using whatever means possible to get elected. Nice that board of corporations likes the Liberals so much they can offer a job to a stranger.
