A type of bicycle handlebar sold in Vancouver and Montreal is being recalled.

Around 62 Nitto aluminum handlebars with the model number B259AA were sold at bike shops in the two cities between January 2008 and July 2011, according to Health Canada.

"Nitto" and "B259" are printed at the end of the handlebars, which were sold in red, blue, black, gold, green, pink, and silver.

"The handlebars can break causing loss of control and resulting in a crash," Health Canada's recall notice states.

The federal department is recalling the product in partnership with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission and the distributor Euro Asia Imports.

About 2,000 of the recalled handlebars were sold in the U.S., where the CPSC has received reports of two incidents involving the product.

One of the incidents saw the rider fall and receive a cut to the leg.

According to Health Canada and Euro Asia Imports, there are no reports of injuries to Canadians due to the handlebars, which were manufactured in Japan.

Health Canada says consumers should stop using the recalled product and contact Euro Asia Imports at 1-888-662-1814 to receive free replacement handlebars.
