Benefit to help New Star Books repair after firebombing

What better way to respond to dumb, violent misfortune than with a party? Three weeks ago, the Commercial Street headquarters of Vancouver publisher New Star Books was firebombed. No injuries resulted, but there was plenty of fire, smoke, and water damage.

Now author, poet, and critic Clint Burnham has organized a benefit for New Star, slated for 3 p.m. tomorrow (March 31) at the Western Front (303 East 8th Avenue).

The donation you make for admission gets you readings by a stellar lineup of local writers and poets: Charlie Demers, Daphne Marlatt, David Chariandy, Donato Mancini, Fred Wah, Jamie Reid, George Stanley, Jeff Derksen, Larissa Lai, Peter Culley, Roger Farr, and Steve Collis—with more names likely to join the list by kickoff time.

See the event’s Facebook page for details.
