Eddie Van Halen proves he's overdue for a solo album in Vancouver

Eddie Van Halen is alone on stage, grimacing like a madman while performing the mindbending solos from "Eruption" and "Cathedral". Hearing those makes me think that, more than ever, now is the time for that long overdue solo album. And no, Dave, there will be no "special guests".

Music writer Steve Newton is filing items of interest from tonight's (May 7) Van Halen show at Rogers Arena. Check back tomorrow for the full review at www.straight.com/music.

Eddie no solo

For anyone who has lived through one of his 20+ minute solos from a live show know that while Eddie can shred with the best of them, he's pretty much all about the shredding. After five minutes of that noodling it's headache time. An Eddie solo album would be a big mistake, and he knows it otherwise he would have found the time to release one in the past 30 years or so.

Big Halen fan from way back, seen them 4 times 2 with dave 2 with sammy all great shows except this one. Lots of people ask "what was Eddie thinking"? I think after 15 years of Van Halen fans SCREAMING for a Dave show, Eddie trying and saying NO for so long, that he finally gave in and decided, O.K. you want it, you got it! here you go "Diamond Dave" ...well you asked for it....I tried to tell you but you wouldn't listen ....hahaha..Thanx for the money...I didn't want in the first place.
