At the CBC's 2012-2013 Season Preview held on May 14 at CBC Vancouver, Shane Foxman and Cliff Ronning took to the stage to talk about what's in store for CBC Sports.

Hockey Night in Canada will celebrate its 60th regular season and is the longest-running program in Canadian TV history.

The 2012-2013 schedule will include special events such as:

      • NHL Faceoff 2013
      • the 2013 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, featuring an outdoor game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings
      • the 2013 NHL All-Star SuperSkills competition
      • the 60th NHL All-Star Game from Columbus, Ohio
      • the 13th annual Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada, featuring all seven Canadian NHL teams
      • Kraft Hockeyville

However, due to the massive cuts to federal funding, the future of Hockey Night in Canada at the CBC has been questioned by observers.

The CBC had previously announced that the CBC Sports budget will be cut by $4 million.

Other CBC Sports highlights for the 2012-2013 include coverage of:

      • the 100th Calgary Stampede
      • Roger Cup Tennis men's and women's tournaments from Toronto and Montreal on the ATP and WTA tennis tours (August 11 to 13)
      • CN Canadian Women's Open in Coquitlam from August 23 to 26
      • FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup from Japan (August 19 to September 8), and later FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan
