If you were entertaining the notion of a midweek jaunt up the Stawamus Chief, forget about it.

As of today (June 19) anyways, the main trail up the back of the granite monolith in Squamish is closed.

B.C. Parks posted this update on the Stawamus Chief Provincial Park website:

The Backside Trail is CLOSED due to rockfall hazard. This includes the trail to First, Second and Third Peak. A significant amount of rock fell onto the backside trail on June 18th. Contractors are in the process of removing the loose rock from above. Please stay out of the area until further notice.
