Stawamus Chief hiking trail reopens after rockfall

Good news for hikers wanting to boot it up Squamish's iconic monolith this weekend.

The main trail up the back of the Stawamus Chief has reopened after being closed earlier this week following a rockfall on Monday (June 18). B.C. Parks had brought in contractors to remove loose rock from above the trail and advised hikers to stay out of the area.

The Stawamus Chief Provincial Park website warns: "All trails at the base of the cliffs in Stawamus Chief are subject to rock fall. Use caution when hiking in these areas and limit your time of exposure." According to an update posted on Thursday (June 21), the Backside Trail will be closed on Tuesday (June 26) for trail reconstruction.
