Jim Green may sue me: James Green

James Green, the independent mayoral candidate from 2005 who got more than 4,000 votes, has said he will release his self-published book, To Be Mayor, on March 1.

As the title suggests, the 200-page book focuses almost exclusively on James Green's 2005 run at the mayor's office. According to a recent news release, the book also promises to reveal the “dirty tricks and underhanded attempts” to “derail” his campaign.

The release stated that “key media reporters will get it in the neck” in a chapter called “Media Awards”. Green told the Straight in a phone interview that Frances Bula of the Vancouver Sun is on that list due to the way Green perceived her to have covered his campaign.

James Green's final vote tally of 4,273 placed him third, behind Vision Vancouver's Jim Green (57,796) and NPA mayor Sam Sullivan (61,543) and ahead of Work Less Party candidate Ben West. Some blame James for Jim Green's loss, due to the similar names. James Green has always denied this.

“The book's not sour grapes; I just wanted all this to be on the record,” he said. “I decided to run for mayor years ago, before Jim or Sam Sullivan, and before [former] mayor Larry Campbell decided he wasn't going to run. I also want people to know I was a school trustee and was asked by Jim Green to go to City Hall and help him save the Four Corners Bank.

“When Jim Green reads it, he'll go into standard mode and try and sue me.”

Jim Green did not return a message by the Straight ”˜s deadline.
