Over 1,000 people took to the streets of Vancouver, and across the country, to participate in the 27th annual Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life on September 23.

In Vancouver, the 6.75 km walk began and ended at Sunset Beach (passing the Vancouver AIDS Memorial), with a route along Beach Avenue and the seawall, and around Lost Lagoon.

A combination of individuals, organizations, and sponsors raised $230,681 (and counting), which will be distributed to HIV–positive British Columbians through the Positive Living Society of BC's Complementary Health Fund. The fund provides reimbursement for essential immune-health expenses such as vitamins, purified water, and more that aren't covered by B.C.'s Medical Services Plan or insurance providers.

The first AIDS Walk in Vancouver was held in 1986 by Positive Living BC and has raised over $5 million in total.

Donations are still being accepted and are encouraged. For more information, visit the Aids Walk Vancouver website.

The Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life took place across the country from September 15 to 23 in various cities and towns.

Other British Columbian places that held the walk included Cranbrook, Kamloops, Moricetown, Nanaimo, Nelson, the Okanagan Region, Prince George, Smithers, and Victoria.

Other cities that held their walks on September 23 included Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, St. John's, and Halifax.
