The fourth annual Canadian Videogame Awards are set to be handed out on April 20, 2013, during the second Fan Expo Vancouver.

Nominations for the CVAs opened today (December 3) and will close on February 1, 2013.

There are two new categories for 2013: Best Animation and the Future Shop Peoples’ Choice Award.

They join the existing categories of Best Audio, Best Console Game, Best Downloadable Game, Best Game Design, Best Game on the Go, Best Game Innovation, Best Indie Game, Best New Character, Best Original Music, Best Social/Casual Game, Best Technology, Best Visual Arts, Best Writing, and Game of the Year.

Games developed in Canada and released in 2012 are eligible to be nominated. The awards are produced by Reboot Communications and Greedy Productions, and the ceremony will take place at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

The finalists will be announced on March 11, 2013, when public voting for the Peoples’ Choice Award will begin.

Next year’s Fan Expo is scheduled for April 20 and 21, 2013.

In April, FIFA Soccer 12 won Game of the Year and NHL 12 netted the Future Shop Gamer’s Choice Award at the third annual Canadian Videogame Awards.
