      The Artist: Leah Rosenberg

The Lowdown: In Case Study at the Lowercase Gallery, Leah Rosenberg activates another intriguing location through her decidedly colourful installation projects. A seductive combination of delightful 2-D work and several engaging sculptures entices you into the space under the stairs.

Coordinates: Case Study runs until October 10 at the Lowercase (3934 Main Street); more of her work is at pretty please…, which shows until October 18 at the Whip Gallery Restaurant (209 East 6th Avenue) as part of The Drift's Main Street art celebration.

Process oriented: Rosenberg is happiest when picking through craft stores in search of supplies to make a site-responsive installation or perhaps a series of glittering multimedia paintings. Incorporating an astounding variety of new materials, the artist's projects spill from her live/work studio into whatever space she has identified as an interesting or challenging venue, regardless of its institutional prestige. Rosenberg sees beauty as an essential trope for people to connect with works of art and with each other.

What it all means: "I want to remind people that it's okay to like something because you like it, and that art doesn't have to be imbued with all sorts of politics," says Rosenberg at her studio. "It can be intuitive and maybe even pretty."
