Local labels unite

Still wondering what to get for the indie-music fan on your list? You'll probably find plenty of ideas at a Christmas party/music sale being held at Richard's on Richards on Tuesday (December 13). Starting at 7 p.m., a number of local record labels-including Ache, Boompa, Mint, White Whale, and Global Symphonic-will be selling music and merch. Shoppers can also browse the collections of local fashion designers and listen to tunes spun by CBC Radio 3's Grant Lawrence. After the sale, local bands You Say Party! We Say Die!, Cadeaux, and Bontempi will perform.

The event was partly the brainchild of publicist Sarah Tesla. "Myself and Dani Vachon from Sound Document wanted to put together a Christmas event, but something that was a little bit more unconventional for our scene," Tesla told the Straight. "So instead of being, like, 'Hey, let's just make a Sound Document/Tesla Media show,' let's do something that encourages and brings together the other record labels in the city, because everybody's doing something individual but there's not one community-based event."
