In recognition of #GivingTuesday, a global movement that challenges businesses and individuals to give back to nonprofits, charities, and the local community following the excess of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Ballet BC has announced that it will match tickets sold for select shows on Tuesday (November 28) by offering children an opportunity to attend a performance for free.
For every ticket purchased for Ballet BC’s renditions of The Nutcracker (December 28 to 30, 2017), Romeo + Juliet (February 22 to 24, 2018) or Program 3 (May 10 to 12, 2018), the dance company will extend an invitation to a child in need to attend a show.
The offer is conducted in partnership with Vancouver-based nonprofits KidSafe and the Kids Up Front Foundation, which provide children with preventative education and donated tickets to local arts, culture, and sporting events, respectively. Tickets for the performances start at $25 online.
Other organizations participating in #GivingTuesday this year include Science World, which will be open by donation on Tuesday (November 28) from 5 to 8 p.m. Animal-friendly businesses such as Chickpea (4298 Main Street and roaming food truck), Eternal Abundance (1025 Commercial Drive), and Virtuous Pie (583 Main Street) have also committed to donating a portion of their sales to the Vancouver Humane Society on this date.
In addition, Vancouverites are encouraged to contribute to nonprofits such as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Hua Foundation, and the African Canadian Continuing Education Society. Check out the full list of participating parties here.
