On December 23, 7:30 p.m., Festive Cantatas: Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat takes place at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts (6265 Crescent Road, UBC).

Presented by Early Music Vancouver, the evening will feature a performance of Vivaldi's sacred vocal works Gloria and Magnificat, which were originally performed entirely by women.

Written while Vivaldi was a musical director at Venice's Ospedale della Pietà, the pieces disappeared following the composer's death in 1741, and were believed lost until their accidental discovery in the 1920s.

British violinist Monica Huggett will lead a distinguished lineup of female period instrumentalists and vocalists in this celebratory program.

Tickets for Festive Cantatas: Vivaldi's Gloria and Magnificat start at $18 and are available online.
