The B.C. government has added several Vancouver names to the BC Arts Council.

The new chair is arts administrator and consultant Susan Jackson, who's served on the council since 2016 and has worked for the last five years as executive director of the YVR Art Foundation. Her experience also spans organizations like Emily Carr University of Art + Design and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Other local names added to the council include vice-chair Jane Brindley, a clinical psychologist and adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia. A former member of the Ontario Arts Council, she now sits on the University Art Committee at UBC, and has served as a board member and chaired the fundraising committees at the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival and the Arts Club Theatre Company.

Vancouver-based writer and communications consultant Manjot Bains and Kwakwaka'wakw/Tlingit artist artist Corrine Hunt also join the council.

The BC Arts Council draws upon the arts and culture community to provide an independent peer-review adjudication process to disperse provincial funding to the arts ($24 million for arts and cultural organizations for 2017-18).
