On January 25 and 26, Vetta Chamber Music presents The Russian Connection “Fire and Fury” at West Point Grey United Church (4595 West 8 Avenue).

The concert opens with Haydn’s String Quartet in C major, from Opus 33 which was dedicated to the Grand Duke Paul of Russia and premiered on Christmas Day, 1781. The next works performed are Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8, composed over three days in Dresden, and Borodin’s String Quartet No. 2, famous for the beautiful melody in the third movement, "Nocturne."

Performed by Maria Larionoff (violin), Joan Blackman (violin), David Harding (viola), and Eugene Osadchy (cello), this concert is a journey into Russian history through three moving quartets.

Tickets for The Russian Connection are $22-$32, with special rates for students, and are available online at vettamusic.com.
