On February 24, 8 p.m., Vancouver New Music presents the Plastic Acid Orchestra in Spectralism at the Orpheum Annex (823 Seymour).

The Plastic Acid Orchestra is a modern symphony orchestra dedicated to creating a new musical experience by combining bold Canadian compositions with modern arrangements of popular music.

For Spectralism, the Plastic Acid Orchestra will be presenting a range of works that explore the musical style of spectralism, which takes sonographic representations of sound as a compositional starting point to inspire music that explores timbre, tempo, and other qualities of sound over time.

The program is expected to highlight rarely performed music, such as Giacinto Scelsi's Natura Renovatur and Quattro pezzi su una nota sola, Györgi Ligeti's Ramifications, Gérard Grisey's Partiels, and the world premiere of Mariah Mennie's Ilinx.

Music fans can also take advantage of a pre-show chat held on February 24, 7:15 p.m., on the second floor of the Orpheum Annex.

Tickets for Spectralism are $35, $25, and $15 when bought at the door and $29, $21, and $12 when bought in advance online. For more information, check out Vancouver New Music's website.
