This is the day that the official version of Canada's national anthem ditches the patriarchal "in thy son's command".

The new lyrics include "in all of us command" in their place, thanks to a bill introduced by now-deceased Liberal MP Mauril Bélanger.

He died last year following a high-profile battle against amytrophic lateral sclerosis, a.k.a. Lou Gehrig's disease.

Today, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra released a performance of the new and inclusive version of "O Canada!", which was sung by mezzo-soprano Julie Nesrallah.
