Theatre Under the Stars set to stage Cinderella and 42nd Street this summer

      A classic fairy tale and a vintage song-and-dance musical will alternate on-stage at the just-announced Theatre Under the Stars season.

      Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella and 42nd Street will take turns at Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park from July 4 to August 18.

      TUTS’ two-show subscription packs are are on sale as of today through May 5 (with early-bird single tickets on sale May 15).

      Director Sarah Rodgers will helm Cinderella, the Tony-winning musical from the same duo who created The Sound of MusicSouth Pacific, and Oklahoma!. Stratford and Broadway alumnus Robert McQueen, meawhile, returns to TUTS after more than 25 years to direct 42nd Street. 

      Adapted from the classic 1933 film, 42nd Street is a backstage fable that pays homage to the golden era of movie musicals and features well-known hits like "We're in the Money" and nonstop hoofing.

      Originally commissioned by CBS in 1957 as a vehicle for Julie Andrews, Cinderella is a lush and playful production that demands equal triple-threat chops with its many song-and-dance numbers.
