Piano star Evgeny Kissin (shown here) will return to town playing Beethoven and Rachmaninoff as part of the 2018-19 Vancouver Recital Society season.

His performance on October 9 at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts  marks 18 years since he's performed on the VRS stage. He'll perform Beethoven’s "Hammerklavier" and selected Preludes by Rachmaninoff.

His is just one of many strong piano concerts on the roster. Others include Paul Lewis interpreting Haydn, Brahms, and Beethoven on December 9 and March 2; Igor Levit with a program of Bach, Busoni, Schumann, Wagner, and Liszt on November 4; Zoltán Fejérvári performing Schumann, Janáček, and Bartók on January 27; Italian Andrea Lucchesini with works by Domenico Scarlatti and Luciano Berio on November 18; and fellow Italian Filippo Gorini making his Canadian debut on February 17.

Other highlights include Finnish-Dutch cellist Jonathan Roozeman on March 31 and the Zorá String Quartet opening the season on September 23.

Vocalists on the program include British baritone Simon Keelyside and American soprano Julia Bullock (making her Canadian debut). The season also features The Jerusalem Quartet with violist Pinchas Zukerman and cellist Amanda Forsyth, the Chiaroscuro Quartet with fortepianist Kristian Bezuidenhout (a copresentation with Early Music Vancouver), the Tetzlaff-Tetzlaff-Vogt Trio, and the Danish String Quartet.
