Vancouver’s Chali-Rosso Art Gallery (549 Howe Street) has announced that it will host a free Salvador Dalí exhibition from May 5 to October 31. The showcase includes over 100 works by the influential Spanish artist, including two sculptures that will be on display in downtown Vancouver.

The first sculpture, Dalí’s Surrealist Piano, is valued at $1.2 million and will be on show outside the gallery. The second, a 12-foot-tall piece titled Woman Aflame, is valued at $2.5 million and will be presented at the corner of West Hastings and Hornby streets. The works are part of a larger exhibition titled Definitely Dalí, which brought the surrealist’s iconic Dance of Time I to Vancouver in celebration of Canada’s 150+ birthday last year.

Viewing of Dalí’s works at Chali-Rosso and in downtown Vancouver is free, though public donations will be accepted in benefit of Arts Umbrella, a local nonprofit that offers visual and performing-arts programs for youth. A percentage of the gallery’s sales made during the duration of the exhibition will also go toward the organization.

“The Salvador Dalí sculpture collection has been exhibited in major museums, city plazas, and outside art galleries all over the world…and this will be the first time that the Surrealist Piano sculpture will be publicly displayed anywhere in Canada,” said Susanna Strem, owner and curator of Chali-Rosso Art Gallery, in a media statement.

Founded in 2005, the Chali-Rosso Art Gallery is Vancouver’s largest private gallery of original modern-master collections. Woman Aflame will be unveiled to the public at a special ceremony on Saturday (May 5) at 2 p.m. at West Hastings and Hornby streets. The event is free for the public to attend.
