Over 40 local artists will open studios to public for fourth annual Parker Art Salon

More than 40 artists in the mammoth creative space known as Parker Street Studios (1000 Parker Street) are expected to open their doors to the public from May 25 to 27 as part of the fourth annual Parker Art Salon.

A salon-style fine-art exhibition that offers Vancouverites a peek into one of the city’s most eclectic and well-known studio spaces, the Parker Art Salon includes a series of artist talks, studio tours, and live music taking place throughout the weekend.

New to this year’s event is the Collector’s Night, a ticketed soiree happening from 6 to 10 p.m. on May 25, that will offer guests a first look—and the chance to purchase—recently completed works by a number of Parker artists. The evening will also feature food, wine, and a silent auction and art display.

On May 26 and 27, attendees are welcome to explore Parker’s labyrinth layout for free, where they can meet numerous painters, woodworkers, multi-media artists, and others, and learn about their completed and in-progress works.

Among the pieces that will be on show are delicate wood-veneer lighting fixtures, stone sculptures, and canvases that run the gamut from the classically inspired to the experimental and abstract. Studios will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, guided tours will be available on these dates for a suggested donation of $5. Tickets to the Collector’s Night, meanwhile, are $20 in advance online and $25 at the door.

Partial proceeds from the kickoff night’s admission and silent auction will go toward AnxietyBC, a Vancouver-based nonprofit that raises awareness of anxiety disorders and provides support for individuals in need.

Founded in 2015 by a group of local artists and inspired by 19th-century salons, the Parker Art Salon aims to promote and support Vancouver’s arts community, as well as Parker Street Studios as an influential creative space.
