Montreal's BJM has announced it will bring the new Leonard Cohen's Dance Me to Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre on November 22.

Approved by Leonard Cohen during his lifetime, with artistic direction by Robitaille and the dramaturgy of Eric Jean, the 14-dancer ode to the late poet-singer-songwriter plays on "the cycles of existence in five seasons, as described in Cohen’s deeply reflective music and poems", according to today's announcement.

Three choreographers have created movement to Cohen’s songs: Andonis Foniadakis, whose physically pumelling Kosmos was seen here, performed by BJM at DanceHouse in 2017; Amsterdam-based, Belgian-Colombian Annabelle Lopez Ochoa; and Swiss-based Brit Ihsan Rustem.

The piece had its world premiere at Montreal's Danse Danse in December 2017 as part of Montreal’s 375thanniversary celebrations--reportedly to standing ovations. Including 15 of Cohen's songs, the show is said to have cost almost $500,000 to create, making it the biggest, most ambitious creation in BJM's 45-year history.

Tickets start at $39 plus fees and go on sale 10 a.m. Friday, June 22 at ticketmaster.ca.
