An Okanagan visual artist has not survived a blast at an oceanfront villa in Mexico.

Laurie Ryan, a resident of West Kelowna, was staying at the Montecristo Estates in Cabo San Lucas when a suspected gas leak caused the explosion.

      Her website revealed her death.

"Please be advised that all art sales have temporarily been put on hold!" the website states.

Ryan painted portraits, landscapes, animals, and still life.

She's survived by her husband and two sons.

She moved to West Kelowna in 2014.

Her work has been on display in that city's New Moon Gallery.
