Vancouver comic Ivan Decker is set to star in one of 47 half-hour comedy specials that will be released by Netflix on January 1, 2019.
Produced by the streaming service under the name Comedians of the World, the program will feature comedians from around the world and was filmed at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, as well as at events in cities like Mumbai, Amsterdam, and Berlin, last summer.
Decker has achieved a lot in his career in the past decade. Most recently, his album, I Wanted to be a Dinosaur, won a Juno award for Comedy Album of the Year. He also made his U.S. television debut on Conan in 2017.
Other Canadian comedians that have been selected to appear on Comedians of the World are DeAnne Smith, Dave Merheje, and K. Trevor Wilson.
Comics from New Zealand, the Middle East, South Africa, the United States, and France will also be part of the series. The specials will be filmed in seven languages, including English, French, and Arabic.
Only a few other Canuck comedians have made it to the Netflix platform: Russell Peters, Norm Macdonald, and Katherine Ryan all starred in full-fledged specials. Toronto’s Sabrina Jalees, meanwhile, appears in a 15-minute episode of the recently released The Comedy Lineup.
Comedians of the World will be made up of 30-minute specials. So, put on some sweatpants and get ready to binge some great comedy on New Year's Day
