From August 10 to 12, the Community Arts Council of Vancouver presents the second annual Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. The three-day free festival offers visual and performing artists facing social exclusion and other barriers opportunities for exhibition and sales, performance and participation, connection, and learning.

Community Arts Council of Vancouver presents the second annual Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival (VOAF) offering visual and performing artists facing social exclusion and other barriers opportunities for exhibition and sales, performance and participation, connection and learning. The festival aims to increase awareness about Outsider Artists and to challenge stereotypes about who and what counts in the art world. The festival provides a much-needed platform for visual and performing artists to gather, learn, and share their creative scope with Vancouver.

“Vancouver has this huge number of artists who are excluded in various ways,” CACV executive director Eric Rhys Miller told the Straight in an interview last year. “It’s a difficult city in which to crack the art market or get connections. So we thought, ‘There’s an enormous pool of talent here. Let’s help these people get out into public view and connect them with one another.’ ”

This year's Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival includes 100+ exhibiting and performing artists as well as organizational partners, free public workshops, and hundreds of artworks on display and for sale, alongside music, spoken word, live art, clown, and other performances.

The festival is free to the public and the event schedule is online at: www.cacv.ca
