      (Community announcement by F-O-R-M)

F-O-R-M, (Festival of Recorded Movement), launches the third youth-led, youth-focused movement on screen festival.

Created through a collaboration between 25-year-old independent dance artist Sophia Wolfe, Company 605 and Kristina Lemieux, the festival encourages community-building through events, workshops and short films that inspire youth artists and audiences to see movement from new perspectives.

With low-cost weekend passes, F-O-R-M is an inclusive event, drawing young audiences and the general public interested in seeing new creative ideas emerge from this next generation. Our aim is to celebrate and support a rising generation of creators and enthusiasts through providing a formal context to both screen and talk about their work. This third year of the festival’s main screenings will take place September 13-15 at SFU Woodwards Gold Corp Centre for the Arts.

For the first time in our 2018 festival, we are excited to also include and support artists over 25 years old. We look forward to featuring youth and professional films together, as a way to spark conversation between the two. Amongst these three days of screenings, you will see a huge variety of films from artists all around the globe including Australia, Philippines, Columbia, UK, and more.

This year, we are delighted to have commissioned six new movement films from artists across Canada between the ages of 19-31. This year’s artists are working towards some very exciting movement ideas and concepts that involve seeing movement through music, fashion and mirrors and speak to issues of race, gender, identity, age and decolonization. These exciting new works will premier at our festival on September 15th and we cannot wait to share them with you!

Our commissioned artists include: Francesca Chudnoff (Toronto), Jennifer Su (Toronto), Eric Cheung and Alimzhan Sabir (Calgary), Roxanne Nesbitt (Vancouver), Cydney Eva Paddon (Vancouver/Durban), Elizabeth Armitage and Aidan Chin (Vancouver).
