Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival is reporting a record-breaking 29th season.

It’s just tallied a total season attendance of more than 108,000 – up eight percent from the previous year.

A hit Beatles-inspired rendition of As You Like It, which also opened with a preshow wrestling match, led the way as the most successful show in the fest’s history. To meet ticket demand, Bard had to extending the season by one week to September 28.

But a Canadian-star-studded, more classically stages Macbeth  also sold out performances throughout its run. (Our reviewer called it "bloody good".)

Celebrities were also spotted under the Vanier Patk tents, including Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried and Downton Abbey’s Elizabeth McGovern (Downton Abbey).

The 2019 Bard on the Beach season will run from June 5 to September 21, with the BMO Mainstage hosting a revival of a 2007 Bard on the Beach hit, a Wild West-set The Taming of the Shrew and the romantic comedy Shakespeare in Love. The Howard Family Stage hosts  All’s Well That Ends Well, set in India with South Asian music and dance, and the political drama Coriolanus. (Season packs are already on sale.)
