This is That will vanish from the CBC Radio One airwaves

It will soon be lights out for one of the zaniest radio shows that ever appeared on the public broadcaster's lineup.

For nine years, This is That hosts Pat Kelly and Peter Oldring have been staging mock interviews and satirical documentaries on CBC Radio One. They adopted a serious tone highlighting absurd and invented controversies in towns and cities across Canada.

One recent episode focused on whether dogs in Montreal needed to understand commands in both official languages. You read that correctly—bilingual dogs.

Another recent show suggested Canada might be getting its own Royal family.

The programs were taped in Vancouver. And many elicited angry calls from listeners who didn't realize that these interviews were spoofs.

A few years ago, another episode delving into the sale of invisible art was written up in the Guardian.

Yet another show focused on Canada Post creating male and female stamps to honour Wreck Beach as Canada's largest nude bathing spot.

The final episode, which was performed live at the Broadway Theatre in Saskatoon, includes a conversation with a person who made fruitcake illegal.

It will air at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday (December 29).
