This Saturday, professional and emerging artists will come together to battle it out in a live-painting competition.

Twelve artists will compete in the Art Battle Vancouver Regional Finals. The event will be held on Saturday night (June 22) at the Red Room.

The artists will compete in two preliminary rounds, with the audience voting on two winners from each. Those winners will then compete in a final round; the favourite artist will be voted the champion, and will have a chance to compete in the National Art Battle Tournament in Toronto this July.

Art Battle has been hosting these live-painting competitions since 2001. They happen all over the world, with tens of thousands of artists competing in more than 100 cities.

The event on Saturday will feature special guest Dmitri Sirenko, the Canadian national champion from last year. He will be live-painting from 6 to 7p.m.

The tournament itself will start at 7 p.m. Notable competitors will include Inha Cho, who paints in a monochromatic style, and Michael Munday, whose paintings centre on “imagery and associated memories”.
