The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra has announced a $100,000 gift to its 100th Anniversary Endowment Campaign, a drive to raise funds for the organization's next century.

The donation kicked off the business phase of the fundraising drive.

It brings the VSO’s campaign to $22,500,000--75 percent of its $30,000,000 goal for the project. The aim is to attract and retain musicians here, support the future of the VSO School of Music, and extend the reach of symphonic music across the province.

Telus has given the VSO more than $3,000,000 over the past 68 years.

At the event, the VSO also announced two other recent gifts: $100,000 from developer Rob Macdonald, of Macdonald Development Corporation, and $50,000 from David Garofalo, former CEO of Goldcorp (now known as Newmont Goldcorp).

The VSO, the largest performing-arts organization west of Ontario and the third largest symphony orchestra in the country, is bringing its 100th anniversary season to a close.
