The Capture Photography Festival has announced that Emmy Lee Wall will be taking over its helm.

The organization's new executive director curated Ensuing Pictures for the fest's inaugural 2013 event and served on the board of directors from 2018 to 2019, helping to shape its strategic plan.

Before that, she was assistant curator in the curatorial department at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The reorganization for the 2020 festival year comes as Capture director-curator Kate Henderson takes a maternity leave, returning for the 2021 Festival. Festival coordinator Adrienne Rempel has assumed the maternity-cover role of program manager for 2020.

“Photography is the medium of our time and Capture plays an important role in advancing lens-based art in this community and providing meaningful engagement with art to a wide audience," Wall said in yesterday's announcement. "Vancouver is a city internationally renowned for its photographic artists, and I look forward to working with the staff, Board, and art community to celebrate this important legacy as well as exciting developments in lens-based art both locally and beyond.”

Capture is set to return, citywide, for the month of April next year.
