Wreck Beach Butoh turns 25 in the surf and sand
For 25 years, Kokoro Dance has mixed dance, skin, sand, and surf in its annual Wreck Beach Butoh performances.
The long-time Vancouver company founded by Barbara Bourget and Jay Hirabayashi likes to say its sets, lighting, and costumes are by Mother Nature.
In celebration of that silver anniversary, the Butoh-inspired company brings back the tradition this Saturday (August 3) at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday (August 4) at 2:15 p.m. at Tower Beach, the section of Wreck Beach at the foot of the No. 4 Trail, just west of the UBC Museum of Anthropology.
Performances take place rain or shine, donations are accepted, and clothing is optional. No photography or video is allowed.
