Arts Tip Sheet: Early Music Vancouver's Le Concert Spirituel

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Early Music Vancouver's opening concert transports you to early 18th-century Paris, when artistic minds launched the first public concert series.

Formed in 1725, Le Concert Spirituel brought music, which was until then only seen exclusively by the courts, to the people, becoming a platform for the finest of the French and touring artists.

Think beautiful Baroque orchestral suites as guest conductor Jeanne Lamon--violin virtuoso and long-time music director of Toronto’s acclaimed Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra--leads Victoria Baroque in a tribute to Le Concert Spirituel. Amid the jewels resurrected here: Georg Philipp Telemann's Overture Suite in D Major for two horns, two oboes, and strings; Franz Joseph Haydn's Symphony No.30 in C Major "Alleluia"; and Michel Richard de Lalande's La Grande Pièce Royale “Fantaisie ou Caprice que le Roy demandoit souvent”.

All we can say is Vive la France.
