Vancouver New Music’s PARALLELS series welcomes Okkyung Lee

      (Community announcement by Vancouver New Music)

      Acclaimed South Korean cellist and improvisor Okkyung Lee will collaborate with musicians from the Vancouver Electronic Ensemble to create "Parallel 02", a unique, site-specific performance piece.

      Currently based in New York, Lee’s broad array of inspirations — including noise, improvisation, jazz, western classical, and the traditional and popular music of her homeland, South Korea — forge her highly distinctive musical approach.

      This work will be created by Lee with local musicians Marina Hasselberg, Alanna Ho, Constantine Katsiris, Stefan Maier, prOphecy sun and Tegan Wahlgren, over the course of three days at the Roundhouse Arts and Recreation Centre. The final piece will premiere on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 8PM.

      You are also invited to join Okkyung Lee and the ensemble to watch the creative process unfold in an open rehearsal on Friday, November 15 from 5 to 9pm in Room C at The Roundhouse
