Vancouver’s stand-up comedy scene may not be as big and well-honed as its counterparts in larger cities, but that doesn’t mean we don’t harvest real talent here.

One example is Andrea Jin, a 23-year-old Chinese-Canadian comedian who immigrated to Vancouver at a young age. She learned English by watching sitcoms and stand-up specials, clearly paving the way for her current career path.

Jin has competed in finals for comedy competitions like the Seattle International Comedy Competition and SiriusXM’s Top Comic Competition in recent years, and will perform in the JFL Northwest Festival in Vancouver in February.

Her punchlines touch base with both western and eastern cultures (her jokes range from hoarding rice to waxing), captivating her audience with plenty of clever lines.

Jin will be taping her first comedy album with 604 Records Inc. on January 31 at Little Mountain Gallery (195 East 26th Avenue).

Two shows will be available (8 and 10 p.m.), and tickets ($10) can be purchased online.
