(Community announcement by the City of Richmond)

The Lulu Series is an annual spring series of talks about Art in the City and its importance to establishing connections between citizens and their communities. To kick off the series, join artist, curator, educator, and consultant Barbara Cole who will share the story of the Blue Cabin. The talk will be preceded by a short performance by members of the Canadian YC Chinese Orchestra.

In The Blue Cabin - Year One, Blue Cabin Committee member Barbara Cole will share the history of the Blue Cabin, from its humble beginnings as the home of North Shore Maritime labourers to its storied past as the creative home of Vancouver artists Al Neil and Carole Itter, to its restoration and first year of programming as a floating artist residency.

Currently moored at the Plaza of Nations in False Creek, the Blue Cabin Floating Artist Residency’s inaugural program of residencies, open houses, talks, workshops and performances was launched in August, 2019. Situated on the unceded lands and waters of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, the floating residency offers a new lens through which to consider the city differently.
