One of the world's most celebrated opera stars announced he has been infected with the coronavirus.

Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo, who is 79 years old, made the announcement on his social media today (March 22), and explained that he and his family are in self-isolation.

He also urged everyone to follow their local government’s guidelines and regulations to protect themselves as well as their communities.

Domingo had resigned as general manager of the Los Angeles Opera in October 2019, following sexual harassment accusations last year.

Other celebrities who contracted the virus include Hollywood stars Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Idris Elba, and Daniel Dae Kim; TV host Andy Cohen; and Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan.
