The two generations behind Vancouver's Goh Ballet are being awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Founders Choo Chiat Goh and Lin Yee Goh received their award today from MP Hedy Fry. Their daughter, former National Ballet of Canada dancer and current director Chan Hon Goh, receives hers on Tuesday (January 22) from Minister of Canadian Heritage James Moore. They're being recognized for their dedication to the art of classical ballet and the enhancement of culture in Canada.

The Goh Ballet is celebrating 35 years this season. Choo Chiat Goh immigrated to Canada in 1976, and in 1977, while also serving as Ballet Master with the Anna Wyman Dance Company, he started the Goh Ballet Academy with his wife, Lin Yee Goh.

The medal was created in 2012 to mark celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne. It is aimed at honouring significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
