Musician Salvador Ferreras appointed VP at Kwantlen University

      Renowned B.C. percussionist Salvador Ferreras is also making his mark in the academic world.

      Ferreras has been appointed provost and vice president, academic of Metro Vancouver’s Kwantlen Polytechnic University, the postsecondary institution announced today (June 19).

      “As the new Provost and Vice President, Academic, I see great things ahead and am honoured to join a remarkable team of students, faculty, staff administrators and board members who are ready to seize a bold and exciting future,” he said in a release.

      Ferreras’ academic background includes a PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of B.C. He is currently vice president, education and student services at Vancouver Community College.

      He is also a past Juno Award-nominee and music educator who was inducted into the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2003.

      Ferreras starts his new position at Kwantlen Polytechnic University on September 3.

      Sal was my percussion teacher at UVic 1990-94 and was first class and inspirational. What a treat it will be for those yet to meet him. Cogratulations.
