Standing Room Only Theatre brings The Weir to a pair of Vancouver pubs

An Irish play served with beer in a Celtic pub? We’re in! That’s the idea behind Standing Room Only Theatre’s immersive production of Conor McPherson’s award-winning work The Weir. The unassuming but emotionally gripping play is set in a bar where a group of lonely guys gather to talk each night—but this time, a newcomer, a Dublin woman, has entered their watering hole, and they try to entertain her with ghost stories that turn dark.

The shows take place in two pubs: the storied Billy Bishop Legion at 1407 Laburnum Street and the Roadhouse at 670 Smithe Street (the former Ceili’s Downtown). Shows take place from Saturday (March 7 to March 14); check the website of the presenter, CelticFest, to find times.

So looking forward to watching our grandson in this play, on Thursday, March 12. Can't think of a better way for an old Irishman to celebrate his 75th birthday !
