Amy Wallis, an actor the Straight once deemed "one of the most charismatic and gifted young performers in town" for her performances in local productions like SudsWest Side Story, and the Arts Club Theatre's beloved Beauty and the Beast, has died at just 32.

She passed away after a lengthy battle with leukemia in Vancouver on June 14.

Wallis was best known here as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, a role she held for four seasons, from 2006 to 2009 in the Arts Club's holiday production. "Amy Wallis makes a perfect Belle. She's in fine voice and has Belle's ultrasensible delivery down pat," raved Straight writer Colin Thomas in his review of the show. She was nominated for a Jessie Richardson Theatre Award for the performance.

Nationally, Wallis had a flourishing career in theatre, opera, and animation and was probably most famous for her portrayal of the iconic Anne in Anne of Green Gables at the Charlottetown Festival. The actor was also part of the touring company that staged Anne of Green Gables in Toronto in 2009. In addition, Wallis starred as Mabel in a rollicking version of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance at the Stratford Festival in 2012; made a memorable Peter in Peter Pan for Royal City Musical Theatre; and sang repertoire from musicals with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Her management company, The Talent House, announced on Facebook that details of a memorial service will be forthcoming.
