Summer Solstice at Mountain View Cemetery
Not everyone wants to welcome the shortest night of the year by heading to a cemetery, but if you’re not spooked by grave affairs, we have a solstice date for you.
Join bassist and Little Chamber Music Series That Could artistic director Mark Haney—along with guitarist Adrian Verdejo, cellist Marina Hasselberg, and singer-songwriter Sarah Wheeler—at Mountain View Cemetery on Sunday (June 21), and you’ll be treated to Arvo Pärt’s gorgeous Spiegel im Spiegel, which is worth the trek on its own. Also featured will be new pieces from Haney and Wheeler, a site-specific art installation by Diane Park, and Jessica Barrett’s choreography for 35 community dancers.
Shows are at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., they’re free, and no one will object if you stick around to watch another low-budget spectacle—the setting sun.

An interesting, reflective event to put on for the summer solstice.
Wonder if the big 'community' event in Toronto's Trinity Bellwoods Park is still on? Apparently 1,000 people have signed up to take part in it. But that's another city, and another way to spend the solstice.
