As the Kitsilano Showboat Society celebrates its 80th anniversary, veteran performer Bert Munn is looking forward to hitting the stage tomorrow night at Kits Beach to put on his annual show.

Referred to by some as Vancouver's version of Fred Astaire, Munn's 15-year run with the society has opened many doors to other avenues in local show business, but he says his favourite place to perform is always at the Showboat.

"Its a fun way for me to give back to the community; its exhilerating for me. It's an ongoing procession, and I'm always learning," said Munn, who was surprised to learn that he's been compared to the well-known singer and tap dancer from the 20s and 30s.

"Be prepared to have a lot of fun. I like to get everybody singing together. It's all about community, and we need more of the community in this day and age, I think, to get together and have fun." 

Kitsilano Showboat is a free, ongoing celebration of local amateur talent, and is run entirely by volunteers. This year's program runs until August 15, but you can catch Bert Munn tomorrow night (July 8) at 7:15 p.m.
