Aeriosa and the Spakwus Slulem Eagle Song Dancers at Stanley Park

Here’s an event amid Stanley Park’s towering firs that promises to be spectacular: Aeriosa and the Spakwus Slulem Eagle Song Dancers are set to soar through the forest.

Trees Are Portals explores the idea of the ancient conifers as witnesses to history—to Coast Salish ceremonies, and all the songs and dances that once took place on the land.

Aeriosa’s aerial dancers have swung high on the rock cliffs of the Stawamus Chief and through the treetops of the Greenheart Canopy Walkway at the UBC Botanical Garden; seeing them in Vancouver’s biggest park, alongside traditional First Nations dancers, should be transcendent. Shows happen Sunday (August 30) at 3 p.m., and Wednesday and next Friday (September 2 and 4) at 1 p.m. Audiences gather at Stanley Park Rose Garden Lane; bring picnic blankets and camping chairs. On Sunday, the event starts out at 2 p.m. with a Spakwus Slulem Canoe Landing Ceremony on the beach near Lumberman’s Arch.
