Emily Carr University has honoured two artists and a landscape architect with a Doctor of Letters today.

The recipients were artist, curator, and writer Lorna Brown, who's spearheaded many public-art projects here and abroad; landscape architect Cornelia Hahn Oberlander, renowned for her innovative landscapes here and in the U.S.; and multidisciplinary artist Eric Metcalfe, a prominent figure from Vancouver's thriving 1960s and 1970s art scene who went by the alter ego "Dr. Brute", whose work is exhibited in major galleries across North American and who was a cofounder of the Western Front.

Each was commended for their accomplishments, commitment, and contributions to arts and culture.

ECU awarded the Doctor of Letters during the installation of the university's second chancellor and former attorney general Geoff Plant.
